About Kimmy

Kim French has touched all of our lives in so many ways. She is a beloved daughter, a cherished sister, a beautiful wife, and an amazing friend.  Kim exudes a timeless elegance, style, and strength of self that is undeniable. Her obvious beauty is matched by her intelligence, love of life, and unwavering commitment to family and friends. Always one to have a kind word, a loving touch, and a contagious smile, Kim’s personality is truly magnetic. We dedicate this website to Kim, and we hope through it we can continue to support her during this difficult time as we know she would for any of us.

Kim’s tremendous character is a true testament to her family.  Kim grew up in the coastal town of Groton, CT the oldest of three children. Her parents Bernie and Joyce, along with her sister Katherine and brother Matt have always been very close and dear to Kim and their support and love for each other is unwavering.  The French family has welcomed her many friends and her husband, Dave, with open arms and consider all to be a part of their family as we are a part of Kim.

A graduate of Bowdoin College and Duke University Law, Kim has a great thirst for knowledge.  Her academic passions were varied and included Biology, Environmental Science, English, and Law.  Her hard work paid off as she graduated from both Bowdoin and Duke with honors and landed a great job at King and Spaulding, LLC, a prestigious law firm in New York City.

Kim firmly believes in a happy balance in her life and made sure to compliment her tremendous work-ethic in the classroom or the office with a healthy dose of fun outside the walls of academia.  Kim’s love of the ‘70’s’ puts a smile on most anyone’s face.  Whether rain and snow, or blue skies and warm temperatures, Kim always has one eye on all things sun and surf. Some of Kim’s favorite things include the beach, Jimmy Buffet, reggae, travel, skiing, dancing, dinner parties, and dirty martinis.

As long as we’ve known Kim, she’s strived to find the healthiest paths to a better life, both  personally and environmentally.  From eating and exercise, to natural medicine and homeopathic care, Kim encouraged all of us to follow a healthier way of life. Some of us even took to the organic foods and natural deodorants that Kim championed so much!
So when Kim was diagnosed with appendix cancer in December, 2005, it came as a great shock to all of us. Appendix Cancer is a rare disease that goes undetected in blood testing and is often not discovered until surgery.  Little is known about the disease, as it accounts for a mere 0.4% of all gastrointestinal tract malignancies.  Although Appendix Cancer is rare, great strides have been made in the past several years that make survival rates greater and quality of life happier.  Kim has been fortunate to be under the advisement and care of Dr. Paul Sugarbaker in Washington D.C. Dr. Sugarbaker revolutionized a heated chemotherapy treatment and surgery that has vastly improved the success rates of those diagnosed with Appendix Cancer. Because this is such a new and groundbreaking surgery, however, it is not covered by all heath insurances. Regardless of cost, it is a life-saving procedure that Kim knew she wanted to make.

We encourage all who come to this site and learn more about this disease, the surgery, and our efforts to support Kim and her family defray some of the medical costs.  This is a battle that will take all of Kim’s efforts and our positive energy. We want to do our best to help Kim focus on her recovery and the happy and full life that awaits her, and not so much the financial bottom line.

Our vision and hope for the  “Kicking it For Kimmy” fund is that it will not only help Kim now but also grow as an educational tool and support system for others affected by this disease.

Thank you for your time and please continue to help Kick this Cancer for Kimmy through your supportive vibes and good will!
